Preparation Trend for Aging of the Elders over Time and Their determinants by 1998, 2002, 2009, 2015 years in Korea

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study is to analyse preparation trend for aging of the elders over time and their determinants empirically. Data from The Social Statistics Survey conducted on 1998, 2002, 2009, 2015 by Korea National Statistical Office are used in this study. From these dataset, 40,987 elders over 60 years old were selected for this study. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, financial preparation proportion for aging of elders have increased but factors affect financial preparation proportion for aging have not changed during past 17 years in Korea. Second, male is positively and statistically significantly associated with financial preparations for aging in all years analyzed(1998, 2002, 2009, 2015). Third, age is negatively and statistically significantly associated with financial preparations for aging in all years analyzed. Fourth,, education is positively and statistically significantly associated with financial preparations for aging in all years analyzed. Fifth, having spouse is positively and statistically significantly associated with financial preparations for aging in all years analyzed. Sixth, economic activities is positively and statistically significantly associated with financial preparations for aging in all years analyzed. Seventh, residence in metropolitan city has positively and statistically significant effect in 1998 but does not in other years for financial preparations for aging. Eighth, total life condition is positively and statistically significantly associated with financial preparations for aging in all years analyzed.
